I can confirm this issue.
After installation of proprietary drivers, nvidia-settings icon is rightly
listed under System -> Administration menu. But after first restart (in order
to activate drivers), and on every subsequent boot, the icon is missing.
I think it's not related to bug #522943, n
Selecting a folder or file on the desktop and pressing F2 to rename it
also makes the frame appear, as does changing themes or screen
resolution.

Why the warning about an unimplemented annotation and therefore a
possible bad rendering is not showed to the user?
It is critical for a user to know that the document is not shown

though it doesn't really cause any inconvenience, but still it's a bit
annoying. After any "sudo apt-get install[remove] " I get
