I have found a solution. Using EnvyNG to do the install from a low
graphics environment works. Now it is as close to a plug and play as I
have seen. I am using 195 drivers as we speak. Can you post that as the
fix?

Seems I spoke too soon. Things were looking very good, but experienced
a lockup yesterday under the new kernel. They seem to be far less
frequent now. Before they were so frequent that I'd taken to completely
avoiding wireless use unless I was traveling.

This is confirmed fixed upstream with rhythmbox (0.12.6-0ubuntu1). It
will never be fixed in Karmic 9.10 as it wasn't submitted as a SRU.
Waiting for Lucid or upgrading via .deb is the only way to have this fix
on karmic.

I tried to reproduce your bug with the 20100223.1 CD, but was able to
complete the install successfully. Can you please try the install in
debug mode (`ubiquity -d` from a terminal) and then run `apport-collect
526157` when you get the error message to attach /var/log/syslog,
/var/log/inst
