As Patrick has stated, this appears to be a symptom of bug 519882, not
an issue with the lucid kernel install process. As such, I am marking
this bug as invalid.

I disagree.
To me it seems to be the same bug.
It can be triggered by suspend/resume or by switching betreen multiple X
sessions.
