I have been doing some more testing. The results described in the
original bug only apply when playing an asx playlist which links to a
http stream. This is how mythtv serves up the programs. If I download
the mpeg file instead and play it locally, aspect changes are completely

Andreas, first of all I thank you for the advices and your time.
1st trial: Lucid live CD. After getting back from suspend mode the whole X
locked up. So I changed to console which behaved very weird(It didn't accept
commands at all). Hence I couldn't get useable information from logs.

For those of us less familiar with commands, please clarify what is meant by
"Don't forget to remove the symlink before upgrading to the newest release of
the faulty package."
I presume "sudo ln -s firmware firmware.sh" created the link, but I need to
find out how to remove it.

After some quick digging, I believe the command to remove the link is
"sudo rm firmware.sh". It would be helpful if the instructions above
included that.
The line "Or wait a few hours until the update is available on your
mirror." may be misleading. I waited several days without any change.

Stop during the first step of the boot on a IBM X31 after having clocked the
audio chipset.
Even in recovery mode, I have to use the "CTRL + ALT+SUPPR" command to continue
the booting process.
Then I got a Xorg error.
The recovery mode can't access the files without a fsck

Same issue on a Karmic Fresh install. Ran the updates, restarted as
prompted and was left with an unbootable kernel.
My solution was to simply boot into the older kernele and run
"sudo dpkg --configure -a"

My terminal can display 256 colors by default:

In order to get vim in gnome-terminal to display colorschemes the same
way as the GUI version I used the plugin CSApprox:
