Now I am confused:
I wanted to make that offending partition sda5 a luks partition again with
palimpsest to check whether it then would again hang. It refused saying I had
to reboot because of the kernel not knowing the new partition table or
something like that. I reboot and the partition that

With the help of an earlier post I found on on setuid problems, I
performed the following
1. Rebooted in recovery mode
2. In the root executed the following:
chown root:root /usr/bin/sudo
chmod 4111 /usr/bin/sudo
3. Rebooted
4. I was now able to install the 5 updates (mentioned in my previ

$ echo 0 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/nvidia_backlight/brightness[sudo]

My backlight turned off completely upon entering the second command.

I just got this error on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic. I'm not aware of having
changed anything yesterday. When starting the computer today the message
was there out of the blue.
When I ran /usr/lib/indicator-applet/indicator-applet nothing seemed to
happen. No error messages either. indicator-applet is ins

having the app crash is enough to make most users give up on trying at
all. Keeping something broken because Googling and finding a fix that

the wifi does not disconnect when i just go on the web or when i do not use
network (or so rarely that I did not noticed) but very often when i actively
use it (at least once per 10 min).
