Actually in my home folder in my default Karmic installation, there is a
folder named "Publikt" (that'd probably be "public" or "shared" in
English), tricking me into believing that everything else is not public
- if it was, why would there be a "Publikt" folder in my home directory?

I've got a little more data on this - the box that I'm having problems
with is a Dell Inspiron and I also have an older Toshiba - Rhythmbox
works just fine off that one and also connects and plays from the DAAP
share, so it must be some weird problem with hardware or a driver on the
Dell.
