Guess what? Without that line in /etc/fstab, booting works fine. This is
still a bug, though, because whatever handled the removal of that mount
point should have removed it from the fstab automatically. Don't know
why it hasn't happened to others yet, but alpha 2 is only a day old, so

I managed to have access to a machine where the bug does not show up.
That machine has a /etc/network/interfaces file containing exactly the
"auto lo \\ iface lo inet loopback" lines.
So this seems to be a relevant clue to bug hunting. In which way this
file interferes with localhost being brought

I am running Karmic updated from Jaunty with the latest mainstream
kernel.
In my case standby is initiated if I close the lid, but when on AC
power, I set it to just turn of the screen, and this is not working
properly: that is, the screen goes black in an almost-closed state, but
