OK now, there is no doubt now - in the manual partitioning mode, If
there is a (dead) symlink named 'opt' onte partition that is supposed to
be the root partition of the new installations, ubuquitty fails with the
errors in the last comment.
I remoded the link and installation went just fine.

I now can confirm, that if UNR freezes down, i plug in a usb drive, it
comes back immediately. The problem must be with some IRQ or USB
controller driver.
Can other users confirm this?

With several tries I managed to get a saved version of a "crashing
document". It is attached. Loading it and scrolling through the document
crashes my Openoffice 100% as soon as the part with the "From:"-line
should be shown (somewhere in the middle).
Sadly, there is no log file created in /var/cr

I couldn't use ubuntu-bug linux (apport) on the Mint system so I just filed
a regular new bug report on Mint via launchpad. The first time I hit submit
it bitched at me because it said the module name was incorrect. The second
time it seemed to take it ok, the screen blanked out and it said "done
