It seems to me, that this bug only occurs with locale de_AT.UTF-8.
So a workaround would be setting the locale to C:
LANG=C pdftk ...
If this does not work or other locales are affected too, please inform me.

I has this problem after installing Ubuntu on an older Gateway laptop
that I had installed a new 160gb hard drive. I installed Ubuntu after
restoring Windows XP. I did the fix by editing the config file which
worked for a little while until, after a few reboots, I could not get a
login from Grub.
I am still having a problem with shortcuts. Although I can sort-of
assign new ones, Kile still gives me the message that alt+2 is for
pdflatex, even though I have changed them both (and alt+2 does not
appear to be assigned to anything at all in the shortcuts dialog box).

I'm using Karmic and this problem has recently started. It hasn't been
an issue for me before (I started on Intrepid) but now it is a problem.
Same as description, switches to US layout from UK. Even if I change it
back to UK it's fine until I reboot then back to US. At least it's the

When I plugin the PCMCIA card the driver configures 4 devices, ttyUSB0-3 ,
networkmanager (or modemmanager?) is randomly selecting a device when

I think the issue is related to the network manager, disable its handling of
the wireless connection.

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
add or uncomment
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu jaunty partner

changing jaunty to your release if different
Save and close file

as for a workaround for opera: it basically works the same as with
firefox (exporting GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1). The file to do this is
/usr/lib/opera/operapluginwrapper. I added it right before the "exec"
(last line) and that seems to work. So, the end of the file looks like
this now:
export GDK_NATI
