I experience the exact same problem here, but on different hardware.
I also can't see any pattern for this behaviour. Anything else is running well
here exept sound: since switching to ubunto (any release since 8.04) I
experiencend major problems with whether onboard microphone or headphone jack
I'm not a huge fan of closing this bug, because we've seen it repeatedly
cause problems in releases, and we haven't come up with a mechanism to
prevent it from becoming a problem again

Same here with my Kyocera Mita FS-1010. The printer used to work
perfectly with Debian sid. Since I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 it doesn't
work properly.
It only likes to print the very first page. Most time this is not
complete, i.e. some of the text on the page is missing while the rest is
complete
Back to the bug itself again: A very evil solution would be checking the
"lowest" pid of the daemon (ok, you have to look out when pids are
starting again from zero again...)

I'm having this problem with Karmic on an old Toshiba Tecra. I started
having a similar but less serious problem with Intrepid. Now when I
resume from suspend, the touchpad often locks up completely - even the
button's don't work. I found this in Xorg.0.log

Correction: substitute "Intrepid" for "Jaunty" in my previous comment. I
had no problems with Intrepid.

I have a 4GB USB stick with ubuntu 9.10 preloaded on it,
I have only used it 7 times to boot off, so it has worked before as a live cd
(or live usb, or whatever its called)
but now when I try to boot off the usb stick, I get a warning saying, then after a blank screen I get
