I find that if you drop the levels in alsamixer below 100% that it
removes the high-frequency distortion.
I found that if I selected 7.1 output this also didn't affect me.. but
only having 5.1 outputs I was missing sounds when they walked into the

Just the latest bit of info I can offer. I've got a Compaq 8710p that
does this too. I tried uninstalling each of the HP ProtectTools one at
a time to see if I could determine which on was causing the problem.
Each time rebooting and fixing using a LiveCD along with the commands
"sudo mount /dev/

This doesn't work. Without the pam_mount option in /etc/pam.d/common-
session your encrypted partition won't be opened.

Can you try Karmic's livecd and try to boot without the splash?
Get to the following page:

I've never used that command before, but googling leads me to believe
you wanted me to do a gvfs-mount on the share first?
I did the following:
gvfs-mount smb://server/C$/
gvfs-ls smb://server/C$/
This lists the files just fine without the "Text file is busy."

Asked an old friend if he'd seen any problems, and he hasn't, running
9.10 with firehol.. sounds like it might be a problem just with your
machine or setup :
Over the last week or so, I have seen a slight change in boot behaviour
- removing the "quiet" parameter no longer makes much difference. It now
seems to take 2 or 3 boots without the "quiet" parameter, with the
system hanging on the first 1 or 2 attempts, then booting successfully.

To be more precise: Closing Klipper does solve the copy&paste problem
but not the plasma freezing issue (just as S. Christian Collins said
before).
