I look after a couple of U100s but have not been able to risk installing
Karmic after reading the release notes and problems I had using the
LiveCD.
Both ran the webcam (5986:0203) happily under Hardy and Jaunty although
I had to load a different version of the uvcvideo driver used for the
bison w

One could argue that the resolver could refrain from issuing IPv6
queries when no IPv6 connectivity is available. (I.e. just link-local
addresses on the interfaces.) It might be too expensive to check this
on each and every query but it would relieve the problem a bit.

apparently, i was asked during installation if i wanted to replace the old
"menu list". at that time i wasnt sure what this menu list was, so i
answered NO. now i understand that i should have answered YES

This is something Gnome did, not Ubuntu devs. And I'm not really sure
how feasible it would be to preserve an older version of gdm. It'd be an
extra package to support, for one. If it needed an older version of the
Gnome libraries, things would quickly get problematic.
