My solution:
1. sudo init 1 # for exiting from Xorg
2. # choose root shell in menu
3. Xorg -configure # make
I can confirm from working code that I have that the normal use looks
like this:
uuid_create(UUID_TYPE_RANDOM);

Hello,
This bug still exists in the release candidate for 9.10 - karmic koala.
I have created a swapfile, added the resume=/dev/resume_partition as a
parameter in grub, but hibernating does not work.
I have run the apport-collect -p linux-image-`uname -r` 252143 command
to add the asked debug inf
i found the root of the problem:
after removing the package gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad, i was able to view
the properties window in nautilus as it should be.
the totem player now complains about a missing codec and suggests to
install gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad but there's no memory leakage anymore

Thomas, you can find my hdparm wrapper script in bug 397096. Please open
a new bug if something is wrong, because this bug here (which I filed
for acpi-support) has been fixed. You can also boot with "nohdparm". All
this refers to Ubuntu 9.10 of course.
