I was running the unstable (at least the RC) version of Karmic, so I
assumed apport was running (it has been popping up with errors every now
and again). But when I checked /etc/default/apport, it was disabled, so

It seems to solve the problem! After installation and reboot i could hear sound
from the internal speakers.
Currently I'm not at home and have no time to check if the other configurations
with digital output etc work, but i will test it.

I've seen the bug with two independent installations to ext4. In my
case, a fsck does seem to repair the problem, making a non-bootable
system bootable again
The issue is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it
could send the bug the to the people writting the software

Just another confirmation of the most annoying bug in Karmic. That's
really ridiculous, how come the default application does not support
proxy. Devels keep working on improving interface in MUC, support for
adium theming and other less relevant things, while the application is
not usable. Nonsense
i forgot to watch in tty1, i saw it at shutdown, displaying something like :
