I think this is a non issue. I believe the bug crashy thingy detected an
error from dpkg generated by a script I was working on and assumed that
it was from the package I had last updated via the Update Manager.
A recheck by the Update Manager shows no packages needing updating. So

Enabling "Allow other machines on the LAN to discover local sound

Adding to that, however, it _seems_ to be a GNOME related problem. Using
XFCE/Xubuntu desktop (also GTK+-based) on my platform doesn't expose
this issue, no matter whether or not GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1 is set. Can
anyone confirm this, or is this just my system?

I suggest to set importance of this bug to High - ubuntu boasts about
this feature directly on
http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatisubuntu/910features/, so it would be
really embarrassing for all to see new users trying this feature in 9.10
