I think I've seen the crash occurring rarely (about 5 times or so) on
this particular laptop in 3 months, but it's been a while since the last
one. After the crash, the screensaver still activates normally when I
wait the idle period, so there seems to be no harm done. Maybe it's
related to upgrade

Installing Karmic Koala Beta on hardware without a functional system

OK, 5 seconds of "udevadm monitor -e" gave me this output.
The CPU load actually changes a bit from time to time. Right now it's
about 15% and there is only 3 udevd processes. Sometimes the CPU load
goes down to being close to zero.

I use Jaunty, but I installed kernel and hdparm package from Karmic and I still
have the problem.
Actually, I have 2 disks (let's A, the system one, and B the unmounted one).
When I do "hdparm -Y" on A, A spins down (but power on just after since it's
the system disk): this behaviour is OK. But,
I'm attempting to compile this code on a machine with 4GB of ram. It
does compile on a non-ubuntu machine with 8GB of ram. I don't
understand why ld needs more than 4GB of ram to compile this. I reduced
the data segment size and it compiles now on the ubuntu machine with 4GB
of ram. I'm going t

I'm having a very similar problem on kubuntu karmic amd64 updated as of today
(3/oct/2009).
Most of the times (not always) the twinkle icon (which should appear in the
system tray) appears on the desktop.
