I have run the install command from the initial cd menu (rather than
going into live desktop) and now I get the correct res working
correctly. I'm going to install from here and see if it is just an
issue with accessing the cd with xsplash etc that is causing the issu

It seems that this error happens more often when I am uploading a lot of
data. For example using bittorrent (donwload/upload) or when watching a
movie from another computer with an uPNP AV server on my laptop.

It seems that my /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file became empty sometime in the
past 24 hours. Added the contents of a standard cupsd.conf file and it
now works.
Might this be caused by the newer version of cups in the recent update?
