I have found a solution to my problem in a Redhat forum and my drive now
works at Karmic no problems with the kernel 2.6.31.9.
Devices for the kit to the disc-Rules are disabled.
The command is a console with administrator privileges:

Thank you for the additional files, however I still don't quite
understand the problem description. Please provide exact steps to
reproduce the problem and if possible a photo of the monitor showing the
corruption you're seeing.

Looks fixed on upstream HEAD even though they didn't resolve their bug
report yet. I guess that means that this bugfix will get synced into
karmic when the stable GNOME 2.28 tarballs are due.

Seems the new CONFIG_LSM_MMAP_MIN_ADDR has to be set to 0, in order to
allow the procfs interface to change the value of mmap_min_addr to 0. A
patch has been sent to the mailing list.

@Bernd, I understand we aren't promoting gpsd for xgps or xgpsspeed;
would it make sense to split gpsd in two modules upstream or in
Debian+Ubuntu: one providing the daemon, bindings and development files,
and the other containing the UI stuff? This might be a way to offer
