It's a change that took place in the xserver (upstream) and now it's up to the
Desktop environment (e.g. Gnome, Kde) to enable it or to disable it. You can
also enable/disable zapping without Kde or Gnome as all the work is done by xkb
now.

Got this problem on 8.10 and couldn't solve it, so i installed ubuntu 9.04
alpha from cd didn't use dist-upgrade, and the problem disappeared.
I think this is not gonna help you much, guys, but anyways, I think
reinstalling can help (which is not optimal).

Well i mean 802.1x authentication support (802.11x is not even
authentication or a spec at all), however it can surely be used on wired
connections. NM has worked fine with wired 802.1x least since 8.04. I
think wpa_supplicant has had support for 3-4 years.

be). Specifying mount paths is really only useful for internal disks,
for which /etc/fstab is more flexible anyway. You can also easily change

Your kernel removes the 0x0 mode, thanks. However, the 1024x768 mode is
still missing on LVDS1:
