unselecting the option in Writer: Tools > AutoCorrect > "Correct accidental
use of cAPS Lock key" did help in my case (Ubuntu Hardy, Openoffice.org
2.4.1-1ubuntu2.1).
To completely turn off AutoCorrect uncheck: Format > AutoFormat > While Typing
