I finally tried to figure out why gdm took so long to present the users
names (30 seconds or more sometimes) and came across this bug. I'm going
to add the regression-potential tag, since this is clearly a regression
over Jaunty's login process.

I've check /var/log/messages, dmesg, kern.log, but it didn't contain any

All that happened was that I got this output to the command line:

Loglevel set to 5

I got the same result both while pressing and not pressing Shift.

I created a minimal xorg.conf file (attached), and placed it in the
livecd's /etc/X11/ directory (in RAM). I then ran 'sudo gdm restart'.
When gdm had restarted, and Gnome stuff appeared, the resolution was
then 1024x768. You can see the various resolution settings which I could
select, in the Xorg

I also have this problem. I think that there are a few needed solutions:
1. I think that when you install a fresh copy of Ubuntu but have a
separate partition for home directory that there should be some kind of
"detect" function where you can add more than one user. Right now on one
of the steps
