Will this bug ever be fixed? I have been using Ubuntu since the very
first release and this issue has always been around. Right now if I
don't disable boot check on my FAT partition (by editing fstab) I get a

I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.04
(ubuntu-9.04-alternate-i386.iso). While this installation still comes
with an "xorg.conf" the file is empty. "Display Preferences" detects the
monitor as Samsung 22", the correct resolution is selected (1680x1050).

I replace the vino with x11vnc before that there is no real fix

For me all kernel version of 2.6.29 fixed the freeze issue, including -5 and -6.
I have tried several 2.6.30 versions in may, all of them re-introduced the
freeze issue so that I stick to the 2.6.29 kernel version for now.

OK, I was too harsh and exaggerated a bit. The rant was building up from
