It was renamed .conf because new kernels require that. Can you confirm that
ALL features of your sound card work with that quirk? If everything (mic,
speakers, headphone, S/PDIF if you have it) works with that quirk, then it can
be marked Triaged and fixing it will be trivial.

I've removed compiz from my 64bit Ubuntu workstation. Every
upgrade/improvement has only made it worse.
If I want to demo it to someone, I have it on my legacy 32bit Unbuntu
workstation. If they ask about the two large displays, I tell them the
truth.
