Did my best to report on this issue. It sounds like Gnome is struggling
to integrate older compose key sequences with the X11 lists, and these
bugs are cropping up due to list disagreement. Judging from the bug
report discussion, hopefully these issues will be shaken out before too
much longer.

On two installs of Jaunty Jacaklope Ubuntu:
One on a desktop PC, upgraded from a clean install of Ubuntu 8.10, a WPA2
secured network cannot be connected to, using a Netgear WPN111 USB wireless
adaptor
One on a laptop using an Atheros AR5005G wireless adaptor, upgraded from a
clean install of Xu

Doing more research, evidently this was a "feature" in prior versions
that wasn't at least in some cases actually working - might be why I
never saw the behavior before. It can be disabled in the pertinent rc
file (e.g. /etc/joe/jstarrc) by entering under "Default local options"

show it on all "desktops", right?
