I managed to find my cause, it is the fusion-icon.
Reproduce:
1.) install fusion-icon
2.) Set window manager to compiz
3.) Reload window manager
Appearently as fusion-icon starts at login, it forces compiz to reload.
Doing metacity --replace && compiz --replace , returns alpha blending
to corr

I hope I understand your question correctly.
What I did is put the exectuable file in the /etc/ppp/if-up.d/ directory,
removed the Broadband card, rebooted the laptop, stuck the Broadband card back
in the laptop, connected to the mobile network and started Firefox.
Do
Installed jaunty netbook remix from the img release (why an img and not
an iso is beyond me) - but, everything apart from the SDHC card readers
work out of the box!!

Actually X runs fine. If I boot from the CD (now Release CD), there is
nothing displayed on the screen until gdm loads and I get a login

Yes it's /var/backups. The symlink is specific to this machine though
other hosts in the company had been set up with the backups actually
under /var/backups. Those may have been ubuntu, debian or CentOS (I'm
not in charge of those). Should we avoid /var/backups?

Same here. Just upgraded to Jaunty yesterday and checkbox-gtk doesn't
run as user. The version installed was 0.7.1 (which is supposed to have
the fix included). I guess it works for fresh installs but not for
upgrades.
For the record, workaround (including blacklist line in config file)
works.

I rebuilt from the sources last night using the debdiff and it appears
to install fine. Haven't actually tried using it yet as I moved the
daemon I was considering running in it into upstart already.

In Ubuntu Jaunty [release version] on Dell Vostro 1710 [same hardware] I
see different behaviour from Intrepid. On Jaunty insertion of an SD or

Changing paper size in OpenOffice, through printer configuration or
through the web interface does NOT work. However, manually editing
/etc/papersize to replace "letter" with "A4" solves the problem!

I have very similar problem, not sure if bug is the same.
Xfce keyboard shortcuts that use numpad don't work. (same command works if
shortcut doesn't use numpad)
Xfce window manager keyboard shortcuts only work after I reconfigure it (with
the same value). After reboot they don't work again.
