I would normally have restricted enabled. However I use my ISP's mirror
of the ubuntu repository normally , and this gets disabled at the start
of the upgrade.
In this case shouldnt update manager enable the restricted when it
re-enables the official repo's?

So - as of 4-13 updates, the problem seems to have gone away. I could
not get the gvfs error to come up again.
I completely reinstalled the system with the release candidate, then got
all updates and gnomad. Tried it again and still no error as far as gvfs
is concerned.

Can anyone knowledgeable on the subject explain to me why vino-server is
suddenly enabled on so many machines? Unless this is an innocent typo

Matt Zimmerman's patch caused my computer to freeze. I was previously
not experiencing this bug. I ran it once during a session where I had
suspended. I hard rebooted, ran the script again, and got the freeze. So
in this case, suspend/resume was not directly involved.

Gosh, I think I found the little bugger. It seems this has been that way near
forever but probably did not always matter (as long as your font only has 256
characters). The problem lies in the function that returns the font data of a
vga console. It will only write back the first 256 characters
It's terrific that a fix has been released, but NetworkManager won't let
me connect to the Internet, -not even using an ethernet cable. (!!!) So
I won't be able to get the fix unless I get out of Kubuntu. It's a real
katch 22.

you're absolutely right that I did not use the best way to spread my
changes. But still, I'm not sure, if it would be such a good idea to put
this up here openly - even though I think I didn't do any harm (such as
memory leaks or so), I'm sure the developers would kill me if they saw
I just got confirmation from Dustin and Nicolas that they have a
8086:2a02 as well. Its a additional datapoint (but it may also mean that
this is just the most widespread of the 965 family of chips).

I booted in debug mode and got the casper.log and dmesg (attached).
Appears to not find /dev/sda, when I look at the system from the BusyBox
prompt there is in fact a /dev/sda and /dev/sda1

Proprietary driver 9.4 is available as of today and it can be installed
to provide graphic display on ATI Radeon 4850 hd graphic card.
So the bug report must be considered as closed.
The same 9.4 driver can be installed on 8.04 version also 64 bits but

Very interesting.. I had it unchecked but after starting compiz and on another
terminal emerald --replace, it works :-/
But if starting through right click on desktop -> effects, emerald won't start.

This appears to be some kind of permissions problem. If I sudo aplay -l
all is well. I found my user not having permissions for audio, and
changed that in the GUI Users and Groups, but that alone didn't solve it
for me.

Upstream has developed a tool to collect useful data on X freezes.
Unfortunately it requires the 2.6.30-rc2 kernel (and a slightly newer
libdrm), so we can't put it in jaunty directly. However I've created a
PPA for testers:

I was logged in via NX and using a terminal within that. I found that
if I ssh in I can do aplay -l just fine. I still need to figure out
how to make NX work for my setup, but this bug appears to be mostly my
sloppiness in assuming that I was automatically in the audio group on a
new install.

So far, I have been unable to reproduce the crashes. I do have another
data point, however. It looks like the UTF-8 issue is present in the
audio device selection as well. The NX-6000 has a Mic, and it is
suffering from the same issues as the video did prior to the patch.

I am not so sure if "usbview is no longer maintained upstream" is really
correct or not.
According to the git tree, it is alive. usbview 1.1 has been released to
support gtk2 on March 2009.
