I don't think it is being caused by NetworkManager. I tried installing
Wicd and uninstalling NetworkManager and I got the kernel panic too. It
looks more like a problem of the network card 3945abg, than something
related to NetworkManager.
I also tried using Fedora 10 and got the same kernel panic

There we go... It is a known issue but not with Ext4. It sounds like
it's an issue with using gnutls as the ssl backend to the login process.
I'll add a link to this bug report when I find more information.

My HP 6730s laptop has a builtin SD cardreader slot. The cardreader
works as expected.
However, my GNOME desktop, displays a generic mass storage icon, instead
of an SD card icon. So this is a cosmetic/usability issue.

there are a lot of people out there who do not consider this problem
solved. Skype video users are a large demographic and they just got
kicked in the teeth.

I do get the corrected icon, for my SD card mount point.

It appears to be all dialog layers that popup from the status
bar/launcher.. except for the old kde3 lookin' applets like klipper,
kmix, and whatever else seems to load into the bottom right container of
the status bar.
