In Jaunty, this seem to work. In my KDE 3.5 based Konversation, the help
viewer is from KDE 4.2, so there is no problem. In fact, I can't choose
to have the KDE 3.5 based khelpcenter.

A hackish way to fix this would be to disable panel shadows by default
in compiz and draw fake (non-composite) shadow on the desktop wallpaper

I can confirm compiz is causing the lockup. I installed compiz under the
xubuntu jaunty live cd.
When I ran "compiz --replace" compiz gave the usual "Checking for ..." output,
followed by the error:

This was caused by what appears to be a combination of issues, the xsl
files were written to xslt 1.0 spec and saxon v9 is xslt 2.0 parser. It
seems the system saxon v9 did not work properly but switching back to

I can't completely follow. Is six different patched versions
