I think the problem is that the compiz key bindings, as well as those in
the gnomecompat plug-in (which includes Alt-F2 Run Application and isn't
enabled by default), are not affected by Keyboard Shortcuts in the
preferences menu and must be set in gconf (or CompizConfig Settings

Sorry about the long silence. My laptop is my production machine and I
didn't want to install a development version of Ubuntu on it. I realized
this week that I should be able to get it working with the Live CD. So I
just tested with Jaunty Flight 5. The bug still exists in this version

I used apt-get to remove all of totem and gstreamer plugins
Then I did apt-get clean and ran totem.
The media player prompted me to install the various codecs that I needed ...

It happened to me every time I tried to move a bookmark from one folder
to another (contrary to Mario A. Vazquez case even a single one, not
only a whole folder). Copying, cutting and pasting via Ctr+(a key) or
menu/Edit/command works.

Attached is a deskbar plugin that uses locate to search for files by
name.
Since this is my first attempt to write a deskbar plugin, there might be
space for improvement. But it seems to do its job, so this might be at
least a starting point.

For what is it worth, I also struggled with this bug following a fresh install
of Ubuntu 8.04.2 following

/desktop/gnome/applications/window_manager/current was set to compiz and
I've changed it to /usr/bin/metacity - so I suspect that might be the

I can confirm this on Intrepid w/ mutt 1.5.18 for connection to my ISP's
mail server over IMAPS (Courier-IMAP). Like trmentry I get this
randomly--sometimes I can go all day without this error and sometimes I
get it every couple of minutes for half an hour.
Haven't tested it on Jaunty.
