Alright update:
since update to kernel 2.6.27-11 the problem has yet to emerge again, this
seems to have solved it, Bluetooth was not the cause and I am unaware what the
real problem was but it apears solved.

I have similar issues on my ThinkPad T61 with GM965 running ubuntu with
2.6.28.4 kernel.
The screen would become corrupted with the 2.4x or 2.6x intel server and
it crashes frequently. For example thinktanksdemo would show a broken
screen (portion of screen inverted or shown at the wrong place),
looks like a gtk+ issue, are you still able to reproduce this with
latest packages?

for copy, the error is the same as I described. Running it with the

Thank you very much for reporting your problem. This helps to improve
Ubuntu. However, is it possible that your internet connection or
something related to it (for example a router) can cause these trouble?
Maybe, there is something which runs periodically and consumes a huge
amount of bandwidth? M
I did a large number of package updates I believe before this happened
(though I believe none having to do with Xorg). However, miraculously, I
recently rebooted my computer the pointer started to work again. I have
no idea why this could possibly happened.
