Sorry for the delayed reply.
I managed to come up with a deterministic sequence of events that always
results in a hang when resuming from suspend:
Basically, if the laptop is booted from battery power AND there are no
external displays attached, the machine hangs every time on resume (one
9.04 is not released yet. I cannot install it.
The bug is definitely reproducible in 8.10.

it's because the kernel provides the drm headers nowadays, so components
which need them (via libdrm-dev) need a newer linux-libc-dev (provided
by 2.6.28-4 ->). The ports still use the hardy kernel AIUI, so things
are broken there.

I confirm this bug, its happens exactly as Cameron Harris wrote, in my case the
sound card is HDA Intel ALC888.
After the start-up the Sound Preferences applet doesn't show any output
devices, restarting pulseaudio helps.
On a side note, my user name wasn't associated with any of the pulse
audio
At no point did I _try_ to start a new instance of the applet.
The three things I tried were:-
1. System -> Preferences -> Sounds
2. Single click the volume panel applet and choose "volume control"

I forgot to mention it looks like nothing depends directly on libdrm-
dev, so that probably isn't the source of the uninstallable issue. It
seems if it is libdrm then it is libdrm2 that is not installable since
several things depend on that including libgl.

Here. Sorry for the delay. Also, I corrupted my 8.10 install :-). So
this logfile is from a Jaunty pre-release which also exhibited the bug.
(Note: The version of X in Jaunty had "DontZap" set to "true" by
default. If you want to use Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to try and recover from
a bad X session,

About 2 months ago I was able to get the same performance as it was in

However, in my searching I discovered something that I think was the
main cause behind my stuttering. Before I updated jaunty, I didn't have
the ath5k driver, and I've been using ethernet to connect to networks. I

It works now.
I installed the backports-modules like I did with intrepid and it didn't work,
but after disabling the driver from (Administration->Hardware Drivers), It
works now.
