I have had all the same issues, I hae noticed that the gnome-video-
thumbnailer is what runs off with all of the resources.This is a
directory that I had restored from a backup before i was messsing with
the partitons earlier, and this was the first time i had nautilus go to
that directory.

Yelp comes from upstream Gnome, and is distro-neutral by default. Any
branding you see in Ubuntu is the result of Ubuntu specific patches
applied to the distr-neutral upstream code, therefore, there is no issue
here.

@Attila --- would it correct to say that the primary issue here is that
Espeak needs OSS and this is not loaded automatically, and sorting that
out needs manual steps not trivial for regular user. Even less so for
the sight-impared. Everything is good once those modules are loaded?

Can you please try again, this time with 'Do not remove temporary files'
checked in the Preferences dialog ? After the error, go to the temporary
directory (/tmp), and run the following commands:
$ mencoder -nocache -noskip -mc 0 -nosound -ovc copy -of lavf -lavfopts
format=mp4 -o video.mp4 video
That's unusual, and doesn't look like a hal-info bug, but let's keep it for
