2) Although the live CD doesn't explicitly prompt for a keyboard layout at
boot, you can choose one by pressing F3 at the boot

>/dev/null' (as opposed to a login or shell prompt)? If so, I think that
is likely to be a different bug (indeed, bug 273189 is definitely
distinct from this one). This bug is fixed if the characters can be
typed and appear accurate

After adding "nodfs" to my kernel at boot time did NOT change anything.
My MS Windows shares that use to mount automatically under 8.04 still do

It is not an issue for me any more although I am still having problems
with the power management in Intrepid. This bug can probably be closed.
