I can also confirm this behaviour, the scattered "system" blocks cause
fragmentation by limiting the amount of continuous free space. They
don't seem to dissapear after deleting the files, but they where
definitely created after copying stuff from ubuntu with ntfs-3g. I will

I had exactly the same problem and the only way to resolve that was deleting
enought files to allow archivemail to handle 4 gigas (two for the Inbox file
and two others for backing up it seems). Once I had space enough it worked well.
So, you need to make more space on your hard disk.

2. Open a terminal and cd to /tmp/tmp/ (in the previous run it was
/tmp/tmp5gLi6A/ )
3. Edit the file Distupgrade.cfg
4. Replace the line
View=D

restarting the whole system?

I've the solution:
1- Open the menu editor: System>Preferences>Main Menu
2- Select graphics and delete all the unused okular items*
*If you delete the unused brasero items (in Soun&Video) you solve the
bug Bug #277092
