I did an test today - took the harddisk (with debian unstable) from the
other, working machine, plugged it into the new machine, booted,
adjusted BusID parameters in xorg.conf and X-Windows worked! On both

Recently the Hardy 8.04 updates have been breaking PC's and Notebooks.
We've had employees calling during the Thanksgiving Holidays complaining

Hi,
I have a quite slow computer and generating initrd takes several minutes
on it. So it is really painful when this process is launched several
times in a row or when not necessary.
For example, I have just upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 today
I had the incomplete line in /etc/hosts as well (intrepid upgraded from
hardy). Anyway, the update of alsa-utils fixed the shutdown hang for me
(I added the missing "localhost" to /etc/hosts anyway).

i gave your test kernel a try, and force feedback works with my logitech
rumblepad 2.
tested rumble with fftest (google for "fftest.c") and i could make my gamepad
rumble with running ./fftest /dev/input/event3 as root and entering one of the
numbers 0,4 and 5 there. would be nice to see this so
