I installed Arch with KDE 4.1 on this Intel-based machine too, and saw
the same effect in KDE. This makes me think the problem is most likely
in the xserver or the intel driver.

I finally found the time to create a customized LiveCD that uses the latest
kernel (2.6.27-7) Ubuntu provides, but the problem still exists for me.
Using dhclient doesn't help. I'm pretty sure it's not a DHCP problem, because

I tried this but still have the same problem. What happens is that,
as part of the logout process from Ubuntu, I see the connection light
on the router go out - regardless of whether it is a reboot or
complete power off and restart. Windows is then unable to reconnect.

I have exactly the same problem. I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 8.04 to
8.10 and now installed Wine. Everything to do with Wine, from running
its configuration program to using it to launch Windows applications
does not do anything for several minutes and only then starts up.

After installing Ubuntu 8.10 beta and making it dualboot with WindowsXP,
Windows won't start anymore. Error message indicates that ntoskrnl.exe
is missing.
Needed to fixboot and foxmbr to get Windows XP working again.
Also GRUB doesn't recognize Windows prop
I forgot to add: I am using Wine 1.1.9 and am running on a Lenovo
ThinkPad T60.
