Following a tip from news://de.comp.os.unix.linux.misc, I tried various
kernel parameters, and *for me* it seems to be an ACPI bug. With the
parameter "pci=nomsi", my Realtek RTL8111/8168B network adapter now
works under both Hardy and Intrepid.

I added a firefox task because its a bug IMO that firefox can not be
upgraded without falling over.
As for the update-notifier task, is the bug here that no "lightbulb" was

I upgraded to Intrepid on my Acer when it first came out, unfortunately
I had to roll back to Hardy because of this bug. I have now reinstalled
Intrepid and the bug is back.
When it locks up I can move my mouse and music plays. Unfortunately the
keyboard and mouse clicks are unresponsive, my cacti
I got the same problem with both beta and final Intrepid.
I had an IDE Nec ND-3500A. I tried several times master or slave => doesn't
work. mdadm package doesn't want to be installed. I tried to make a cp
/cdrom/pool/.../mdadm* /tmp => device error !
I tried CD check => works fine
Then I used
I was stuck on this same blank/black screen. Removing compiz and compiz-core
through recovery mode solved the problem. (apt-get remove compiz; apt-get
remove compiz-core)
I reinstalled both packages after disabling display effect, my PC is now
booting fine.

Hello,
I also use Pidgin on AMD64 and Intrepid. And I use also XMPP but not MSN and I
do not have this problem. You could disable MSN temporary in order to find out
if the MSN module has the memory leak.

I just upgraded the nvidia driver for my geforce 7600gs to 180.06 and my
artifact problems are gone (along with some weird window drawing errors
I was having). The driver is available from nvidia.com's driver beta
section.
