I have exactly the same problem, using Ubuntu 8.04 and the opensource
Radeon driver. I have banged my head against this problem many many
hours. changing cables and such. I have not yet tried the xrandr
workaround as stated here, but I will do that later today.

Hi,
I have a Intel 82852/855GM graphics controller on my Lifebook. After
playing about 10 sec of video the display becomes blank. After killing
the x-serverwith ctrl-alt-backspace, the system crashes completely.
I tried to update xserver-xorg-video-intel from the intrepid-proposed,
and added the

Looking at the kernel as built it seems to be missing one part of the
fix. I have therefore rebuilt it and pushed up a new kernel. Perhaps

compiz. When i change back to metacity, fullscreen runs very smoothly.

I will try installing Ubuntu 8.10 someday when I have time, so I can test it :)
Right now I'm under Archlinux, and most of the files and places listed there
don't even exist in my system.

I installed the ntop package to have a closer look at the network traffic. It
seems that within a few seconds several hundred megabytes are sent to the
DNS-server, with which my pc is connected, and the DNS server is sending this
packages back. According to a comment in

May a JDK 6 bug in new Ubuntu 8.10. But in 8.04 works perfect without
this problem. I don't know.
