is a valid connection (managed manually), then VPNs would make sense.
However, NM must act carefully in this case and not interfere with (read
"clobber") the already configured stuff (i'm thinking /etc/resolv.conf

Since upgrading from hardy to Intrepid I have a similar issue. I had
set Hardy up with static IP and on upgrade to Intrepid, I have no nm-
applet I am online, but can't manage my nic. It gives me the read
only message mentioned above. Oddly, the Network Configuration shows I
have 2 nics, eth0

In Intrepid Ibex, I'm able to move my mouse but X does not catch any
mouse events after short usage with 4 separate X screens/4 monitors. It
works when I first start X, but after using Firefox for a bit, my mouse
ceases to report

I have solved my problem, and will post the steps here. I'm not sure if
this should be considered a 'wishlist' item, or if this is just how the
operating system is supposed to work -- but it's very frustrating that
this option is buried. I've posted the related steps to the Ubuntu
forums and hopefu
I originally submitted this as a bug because I'm pretty sure the login
window process wasn't necessary in Gutsy, but is now required in
Hardy/Intrepid.
I still feel that this process needs attention, or at least some
official documentation that can be Google'd. Anyone looking to enable
