so far I haven't had anymore crashes after the initial web update to 08.10b
from 08.04.1 (KDE Resources needed installing & the grub boot loader needed
rewriting, I also upgraded to Python 3) & what Ive already posted. Switching
of desktop effects seemed to solve my other prob

I've been running into kvm issues in 8.04 a lot as well, so I decided
I'd give the current 8.10 kernel a try. However, it seems like the
compile instructions are for 8.10, at least I can't find makedumpfile on
8.04, and make-kpkg fails for linux_2.6.27-5.8.tar.gz as well.

NSS is, KDM uses NSS so glibc suggests to restart KDM.
I am still thinking about this, but in my humble opinion this is really
an issue with the wording of the libc6 posinst script. It should advise

I can confirm this happens when I install cfengine-2.2.7-1 on hardy.
Each hourly cfagent run by cfexecd gets turned into zombie process and
no cfengine jobs are done. But when I run cfagent on the command line I
get no errors.
As cfengine is supposed to be run regularly from cfexecd, I think this
nothing,
just gnome-power appears with the changed new brighness
