I've installed 2.6.27-2-generic and rebooted and it successfully booted.
I'm doing a full upgrade to Intrepid at the moment, hopefully that will
fix all of the oddities going on with my system, but at least I know I
can take the LiveCD and reload the computer from scratch.

I run 2.6.27-2-generic now and the screen still does not recover after resume.
When I resume, the screen in initially black, but backlit. Then gradually
colored corruptions appear until the screen is full of eerie looking

bradleee, you rock. -- taking off the device password solves the
bouncing device issue. Note, i had to restart the device after removing
the device password. device is currently charging!
I haven't tried to tether yet, but i'm guessing that will work just
fine.
