Hmm, actually I take back the earlier statement about the whitespace
just after "dselect". It seems that *that* run errored out on a DNS
lookup of the archive hostname. Not sure yet if that was repeatable,

Regression: pitch wavers like an old record playe
The problem appears to be to do with the way X11 displays the fonts. I
have found that I would see the incorrect spacing when I was working on
a document in openoffice. I would also see it in a pdf file created from
that document when it was displayed in gnome. However the same pdf
document appeare
Should be fixed in 4.1.0 - cause was binary incompatibility.

I discovered that when I create files on my desktop from the terminal
they do not appear. Later on I tested in nautilus and the problem seems
to be more general. To recreate the problem:
