when regular updates get interrupted with ubuntu 8.04 then update-
manager should be able to repair this by showing a icon in the gnome-
panel. The same for release-upgrades, however this is of course tricky
if there is no X working anymore :/

I was dropped back to VT7 (active KDE3 session) when I quit from VT9
(KDE4 session). (I don't know if it is Splash or something else that
occupies VT8.) I am on Kubuntu Hardy.
Do you have exact steps to reproduce the issue? Did you have an active
session or KDM open on VT7? Had you perhaps manuall

For more than 3 months now some people have been complaining about
ununtu's 2.6.24 kernels causing random freezes to a few systems (see the
many threads that come out googling for hardy + freeze). This
