I see something similar to this on 8.04. I set my preferences to
suspend after 1 hour of idle time when on AC. Most of the time (though
not always) when it suspends from being idle, when I wake it up, it
immediately hibernates.

i ran the bug reporting tool from within synaptic so it listed it as being a
synaptic bug. disregard that. this bug has an unknown source to me.
i had also ran the Fix xserver option from recovery mode menu, and checked for
broken packages; all good. yet bug still remains.

I'm afraid the Xorg log has since been overwritten (apparently it only
logs 2 sessions/days?), so I won't be able to post the original.
I could run without xorg.conf and post its results, but do you want me
to do so in the working setup (no KVM) or while replicat
...as it would:
a) allow to give some special users update/install privileges
b) solve the theming problem: atm when you use synaptic, it will use
root's theme settings if the user uses a local theme, which potentially
looks very out of place
or is there a plan to move to PackageKit for Intrepid
