i selected no and then it said couldnt find suitable kernel interface to
compile. it behaves as if build-essential in not there at all, even though i
installed it using synaptic

As a workaround the following command line software can be used to bring
pq back to window lists...
wnckprop --unskip-tasklist
When you run the command in a terminal you are asked to choose an
application by clicking on it.

Ubuntu better. Could you try reproduce the same thing using Metacity?
and include your ~/.xsession-errors file, /var/log/Xorg.0.log and the
output of lspci -vvnn as separate attachments to your bug report.

Resolution problems
Hola de nuevo!! =) ... pues gracias por la respuesta Festor Wailon Dacoba, pero
... la verdad prefiero un sistema de archivos mas compatibles que el ext2 o
ext3 en windows.
