I can confirm this bug. However I think the real bug here is that the
default keybindings of compiz overwrites a default keybinding in the
gnome desktop.
Workaround:

I have used the update for a week now and did not notice any
differences. It neither got noticeably faster, nor did it break anything
(amd64, GeForce 5200, nvidia-glx-new). Admittedly I didn't notice any
particular slowness in Evolution before, either.

I *did* notice the speed-ups, particularly in Evolution. For my case
(AMD Catalyst 8.5 fglrx-driver), Evolution was especially slow with this
work-around enabled. I have not noticed any sign of corruption at all,

I'm having a similar issue, but it is when encoding to mp4 straight from
DVD. The temp files appear to get about 160 MB and then disappear. In
the end either the encoding hangs at ~96% or the encoding completes, but
either way no .mp4 file is created.
I think it stems from this:

After removing quiet option on my sony vaio C25G, I still got this

I'm still running Feisty because it's the only Ubuntu version that will
connect to wireless networks - and even then it's not working as well as
it should; when I try to log onto some networks it won't connect and I
have to boot into Vista (always an embarrassment for an Ubuntu advocate

I am getting the exact same error on startup but I'm just most of my
toolbar and menu icons (mostly the folder icon I think). Happens just by
opening and closing Firefox.
