I can confirm this bug on my Dell Vostro 1000.
I'm using Kde3 with guidance, and it says that its changing the brightness bug
nothing happens.
If i output commands directly to the /proc file reported by the original author
the brightness changes Ok.
Unloading the video moduloe and loading the dcd
I have the same problem (and it really annoys me a lot!) on a laptop LG
P1 Express with an ATI Mobility X1400.
When there is a clean install everything work fine. When the driver is
installed, then the whole system is ruinned.

I have upgraded to Ubuntu 7.0, Release 7.0, but no panels (including the
top and bottom taskbars) are visible. I can launch various windows from
the terminal (ie, synaptic, firefox), but when I try and launch gnome-
panel I get an error with regards to an unfound symbol in lib

I saw an error related to python2.4-minimal at the end of the upgrade
procedure (during the "Clean Up" phase). I didn't get a chance to
copy/paste that message since the modal error dialogs blocked me until
the windows closed all of themselves.
Dustin - Thanks for the script, but unfortunately virt-manager can manage
VMs both locally and remotely - you wouldn't want someone to not be able to
run the app because they're not a memeber of the right group on their desktp
when they're actually intending to manage VMs on the server.

Just noticed my fresh install of hardy is not sending it's hostname to the
dhcpd3 server (and thus no entry is being added to a dynamic bind dns).
All worked as expected when I added "send host-name ""; back into
the /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf
Alternatively I could have used
