colors get all messed up and are hardly readable (very dark colors, and darkred
instead of cyan, yellow instead of blue etc.)

First, thanks for the workaround.
I blacklisted the saa7134 and now I can boot with 2.6.24-16-generic kernel and
hald loads.
I tried to load saa7134 manually by 'sudo modprobe -v saa7134'
and I got this:

I have exactly the same problem on my MSI VR610 new laptop with:
ATI Technologies Inc SB600 Non-Raid-5 SATA
100% same situation as it was descripted above!
Everything on my Ubuntu 7.10 32bit looks OK but the speed of copy and
system performance is definitely not OK!
Coping 700MB of data bet
PS.:
Exactly same situation with Ubuntu 7.10 amd64!

This same bug has occurred after upgrading to the Heron. Same error
about permission on the /var/spool/cron/atjobs directory.
Apr 12 16:19:49 scytel atd[1656]: Cannot change to
/var/spool/cron/atjobs: Permission denied
scytel% sudo ls -hl /var/spool/cron
total 0

This issue is fixed in Hardy Heron. Thanks.

Ok, I just tried the current daily LiveCD and there the problem is gone.
So I'm not really sure this needs a fix still.
I guess it depends on the daily version the rest is using.
