When fsck detects a directory is corrupt but the inodes are in use, it
will simply put files, unnamed and without directories, in /lost+found.
This is normal (certainly for ext3, probably for reiser also). It
sounds like you had some file system corruption but not in a

Sure, but it's not a HP issue IMO. Several threads exist with this problem with
various Printers from Brother as in this thread, to Epson, to HP...on the web
in various Linux distros including more than this one for ubuntu. Does not
appear to be printer manufacturer specific, but related to the
probably, but I do nhot have enough knowledge to decide wether it is exacltly
the same.
At least with update-manager it appears similar, though update-manager is
called from the menu without gksu. But I have the same also with synaptic (it
is called with gksu from the menu) which does not start

I've just tried system-config-samba. Except for #213942 which is

While waiting for fix, you can use alltray:
sudo apt-get install alltray
Then in System/Settings/Sessions add pidgin to autostart with command
"alltray pidgin"

Similar here - Hardy on vmware machine. When pressing Quit it can take a
minute or so until the quit dialog appears, meanwhile everything is
stuck. Pressing Ctrl-Alt-Backspace kills Gnome immediately and returns

It surely reproduced itself when trac tried to scan another .cda file in
a subdirectory. I'll post the two files as an attachment.
