on linux-restricted-modules etc so the can be safely removed leaving the
actual kernal intact , I tried this on one of my boxes and it worked,
the hand compiled nvidia driver now survives a reboot.

I have recently updated to amd64 Hardy 8.04 from 7.10 and started
noticing that my dmesg is full of warnings and errors related to iwl4965
module. I've installed the latest updates and linux-backports-modules-
hardy-generic package.

I reported bug #211417 which is a duplicate of this bug, and here's the
workaround I found:
Change line #86 in /etc/init.d/checkfs.sh:
logsave -s $FSCK_LOGFILE fsck -C3 -R -A $fix $force $FSCKTYPES_OPT
3>$PROGRESS_FILE &
into
fsck -C3 -R -A $fix $force $FSCKTYPES_OPT 3>$PROGRESS_FILE | logsave -s

for manual configuration of video parameters (i.e. "dpkg-reconfigure
